ALLIANCE TO END HUNGER STAFF
Tony P. Hall, Director
Three times nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, Ambassador Tony P. Hall is a leading advocate for hunger relief programs and improving human rights in the world. Ambassador Hall is currently serving as the director of the Alliance to End Hunger which engages diverse institutions in building the public and political will to end hunger at home and abroad. The Alliance has more than 75 members -- corporations, non-profit groups, universities, individuals, and Christian, Jewish and Muslim religious bodies. Mr. Hall served as the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Agencies for Food and Agriculture in Rome, Italy, from 2002 to 2005. Prior to his diplomatic service, Mr. Hall represented the Third District of Ohio in the U.S. Congress for twenty-four years, their longest serving representative in history. During his tenure, he authored legislation that supported food aid, child survival, basic education, primary health care, micro-enterprise, and development assistance in the world’s poorest countries. A founding member of the Select Committee on Hunger, Mr. Hall served as its chairman from 1989 to 1993. In response to the abolishment of the Hunger Committee in April 1993, he fasted for 22 days to draw attention to the needs of hungry people in the United States and around the world. Mr. Hall founded and chaired the Congressional Hunger Center, a non-governmental organization committed to ending hunger through training and educational programs for emerging leaders. Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Hall and his wife Janet live in Arlington, Virginia, where they raised two children.

Ann Steensland, Cheif of Staff
Ann Steensland serves as the Chief of Staff for the Alliance and is responsible for raising membership contributions, implementing the Alliance’s communications strategy and managing the website. Ann has more than 15 years of experience in fundraising and communications for advocacy organizations, international non-profits, arts groups and major capital campaigns. Prior to joining the Alliance to End Hunger, Ann spent 5 years directing the non-profit department of a Washington, D.C. - based non-profit and political fundraising consulting firm. Over the years, she has worked with a wide variety of organizations, including the Newseum, Habitat for Humanity International, and the Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership. Ann has also worked in the Olympic Movement at the U.S. Olympic Committee and the Seattle Goodwill Games Organizing Committee.
Ann has a B.A. in International Relations from Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts. A native of Washington State, Ann has lived and worked in Washington, D.C., since 1997.
Cody Fischer is responsible for serving the needs of Alliance members, fostering strategic partnerships between members and coordinating our efforts with the International Alliance Against Hunger and other Alliances around the world.
After graduating from St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota with a B.A. in Economics and Entrepreneurship, Cody served as a Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellow at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank where he wrote a strategic plan to restructure and expand a program bringing local produce into low-income urban areas. As a fellow, he also worked at NETWORK, A Catholic Social Justice Lobby, where he helped organize the Convention for the Common Good and developed voter education materials for the 2008 Presidential election. After finishing his fellowship, Cody joined the Obama Campaign as the Deputy Director for Catholic Vote based in western Pennsylvania.
Prior to joining the Alliance, Cody spent six months in Senegal as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar where he studied French, taught computer literacy and English at a public primary school, and spoke to Rotarians to foster good will and international understanding.
Nicole Washington, Executive Assistant and Board Relations Coordinator
Nicole Washington manages board-related activities for the Alliance to End Hunger. She also provides administrative support to the director and staff of the Alliance.
Nicole, who originally hails from Greensboro, North Carolina, graduated from American University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies. Prior to the Alliance, she was Executive Assistant at the Fair Labor Association in Washington, DC, where she learned about the technical aspects of labor rights and also that labor violations tend to be similar, no matter what the country. She has volunteered with the Capital Area Food Bank, the Dinner Program for Homeless Women (now Thrive DC), and DC Central Kitchen. In addition, she spent June through November of 2009 working at three local farmers markets.
